When I first saw Population: One, it was a paid game. Since then, it has transitioned to a free-to-play model, which is what finally enticed us to give it a try—and I’m so glad we did.
Population: One is a battle royale-style first-person shooter where you play in squads of three. The game kicks off with a race to the launch pad, and once you’re airborne, you dive and parachute into your chosen starting area. From the moment you land, it’s a mad scramble to gather weapons and resources as quickly as possible, preparing for the battles ahead.
Sound familiar? It chould! Population: One feels very much like the Fortnite of VR, but with a twist—it’s in first-person. This perspective, paired with the immersive nature of VR, adds an entirely new layer of intensity and excitement to the battle royale formula.
The game is impressively well done. The vibrant colors and detailed environment textures make the map feel alive and engaging. The weapon models, which you see in your hands, are sharp and visually satisfying, adding to the immersion. Whether you’re scaling a skyscraper, gliding through the air, or engaging in a firefight, the game looks and feels polished.
What sets Population: One apart, though, is its emphasis on vertical combat. The ability to climb nearly any surface and glide across the map isn’t just fun—it’s game-changing. It opens up endless tactical opportunities, allowing you to ambush enemies, make daring escapes, or secure the high ground for a strategic advantage.
If you’re a fan of battle royale games and you’ve got a VR headset, this is one you don’t want to miss. The free-to-play model makes it easier than ever to jump in, so grab a couple of friends, form a squad, and see why Population: One has become such a standout in the VR gaming world.
